GETTING STARTED
   You'll want to save your
partially completed adventures, so
use the DOS menu C command to copy
the Grand Underground Text Adventure
to a DOS 2 compatible disk that
contains only the DOS.SYS and
DUP.SYS files. Rename SPTIRE.EXE to
AUTORUN.SYS if you want it to load
and run automatically.

XXX
To load or save a game, just type
LOAD or SAVE respectively. You may
save as many as nine different
versions on a disk. Type QUIT to
restart the adventure. If you don't
enjoy the gaudy colors of the
multiple text windows, press the
inverse key for the monochrome
display.

   Antic's Grand Underground Text
Adventure uses the classic verb-noun
command format such as EXAMINE KNIFE
or GET KNIFE. All direction
commands can be typed with just the
first letter -- North, South, East,
West, Up, Down.
XXX

Here is a list of verbs
recognized by the program. Only the
first four letters of these commands
are read:

LOAD SAVE QUIT DIG SAY BEAT
KICK KILL BURN LIGHt CLIMb CLOSe
CUT DROP EAT LOOK GET TAKE
GIVE ENTER JUMP WEAR SWIM LIST

HOW YOU GOT HERE
Let's set the scene for the story
of Antic's Grand Underground Text
Adventure (originally titled Spare
Tire).

It's time to visit your mother
again, whether you want to or not.
You head towards mom's house,
realizing that the last time you
visited her was over a year ago. By
now, not only did you lose her phone
number, but you also don't recall
how to get there.

XXX
Day becomes night as you drive
around in circles. The roads are
narrow and dark and even with your
high-beams on, it is still hard to
see.

   Suddenly, a little dog appears
out of nowhere. You swerve to avoid
the animal, only to lose control and
slide into a hole. You see stars
around you, but fortunately you are
not hurt. The only damage is a very
flat tire. Looking in the back of
the trunk, you discover that the
spare tire was used last time you
visited your mother. Suddenly you
hear chattering noises from below.
XXX

Perhaps someone down there can help.
You have only one choice, to
investigate and attempt to find a
spare tire.

   Have fun adventuring and don't
forget to visit your mom soon!
